Adelphia - Comcast

You may have heard that the assets of our funding parent, Adelphia Cable, were sold to Comcast on July 31, 2006. For unknown reasons, the major news media has been silent on this issue, but the sale of Adelphia has been in the works for several months, as part of a Chapter 8 bankruptcy proceeding. You can read Adelphia's press release on the matter, as it appears on their website.

It is very important for ORCA viewers to understand that the sale of Adelphia to Comcast will not affect our funding status. For a cable company to provide television services in Vermont, it must provide funding for local Access television (PEG). Thanks to the Vermont Public Service Board (give them a hand, yay!), PEG Access remains a viable and consistent aspect of the cable viewing experience. We PEG providers and you viewers are lucky to have the PSB working so hard to protect the rights of utilities' customers.
